About Historic Bridgewater Hall
Bridgewater Hall was originally begun in 1781 by Peter Rust, a Veteran of the American Revolution and one of the famous “Over The Mountain Men” Starting as a 2 room log structure, the place grew through the centuries to about
4,500 sq. feet. Situated on the Old Catawba River, the house has a rich history that has seen the 18th century, 19th century, 20th century and now the 21st.

It has survived at least 2 floods, several wars and who knows how many hurricanes? The home remained in the Rust Family for almost 200 years until “Miss Ginny” passed away in the late 1900's. In the early 1900's the home served as a Boarding House for officials who were in charge of the construction of beautiful Lake James.

The current owners purchased Bridgewater Hall in June of 2004. Since then it has been carefully renovated, restored, and furnished to reflect it’s gracious, southern charm and character. Constructed of almost all tongue and grove Heart Pine with a few walnut and mahogany doors thrown in. Most of the wood is hand hewn as is still visible in many part of the house. Through the years, hand made nails, wooden pegs and a lot of love have held this home together.
